The sea glitters in the evening sun like tinfoil crumpled around a cucumber sandwich. Spiky palms and big smooth rocks pepper the yellow sand. Black and white herring gulls call to their grey, punky chicks from sharp beaks with red lipstick dots. The warm breeze caresses my face and entreats me to breathe it in. I do. Salt and fishing boats.
I feel alive and free, though maybe that’s because I’m no longer stuck in the backseat of a car listening to an argument about Bratz versus Barbie. I don’t even have my mp3 player on – there’s something soothing about the sound of the rolling tide. &nbs
